Every time I wanted to go somewhere another thousand or so Scouts were going to the same place. |
![]() Each swap should include an exchange of names and addresses . “Beating” (taking advantage) of the other guy is contrary to Scouting. Don’t miss the other Jamboree opportunities trading all the time. No money should be involved. Adults should not trade with youth. . These rules (suggestions) weren’t enforced in 1977. At later Jamborees rules would be enforced. The question becomes what to do with the Scout that finds patch trading more exciting than all the program opportunities. The Scout pays his money and comes to the Jamboree, as long as he performs his duties in the Patrol and Troop, perhaps it’s no one’s business. It’s comparable to rank advancement. A percentage of Scouts love the program; camping, hiking, etc. but despite unit leaders pleading, they just don’t advance in rank. |

![]() (above), Scouts love hot air balloons, this one in 1977 was in the Northeast Region. It probably ushered in the idea of balloons at future Jamborees. Scouts were still wearing neckerchiefs in 1977 although I don’t recall ever seeing a slide as shown. There were signs everywhere. As always the Jamboree covered a lot of ground and it wasn’t always easy to know where you were going. (left), Elaborate gateways seem to come and go, but they are a Jamboree constant. |

The “new” (in 1972) Regions issued insignia. Regions need funding and making neckerchiefs and patches is an easy source. The new regions were generally not as restricted to regional scouter use as in previous years. |
